TEMPTED - From Tonight Until Forever Book Three

Caught between two worlds, Brynn knows both the dark promise of the night and the strength of an enduring race driven to protect the innocent. When the disappearance of numerous women is linked to an order of immortals determined to put vampires at the top of the food chain, Brynn struggles to walk the fine line between her vampire heritage and her hunter brethren. But nothing tempts her to embrace the fierce hunger within as much as her attraction to a vampire with every reason to hate her.

Haunted by events he wishes he could forget, the only thing Gabriel wants is to be left alone. Tracking down missing women is not his job, but the harder he tries to steer clear of Brynn, the more involved he becomes. She’s everything he wants and everything he shouldn’t. Giving in to temptation won’t be nearly as hard as knowing when to walk away.

EXCERPT

Gabe turned his head and met her gaze, unprepared for the explosive longing that rocked him to the core as their eyes locked.

Whatever showed on his face made her take a wary step backwards.

Another first. Brynn never retreated.

A becoming rosy flush crept across her cheeks, and she pressed her lips into a firm line. Then turned away from him.

Gabe knew better. He really did, but that didn’t stop him. He reached for her hand, anticipating the elbow she drove back to catch him in the ribs. He avoided the halfhearted blow and jerked her arm with just enough force to make her pay attention.

She stumbled before whirling on him, but he was already on the offensive, strategically backing her against the wall.

“Not a good idea, slick.” Her voice was dangerously low.

If anything it made him more determined to push her to the edge. “Something got your panties in a twist?”

“Aside from you trying to manhandle me?”

Gabriel laughed. “As if anyone could manhandle you.”

“The keyword there was ‘trying’.”

He cocked his head, considering. “I don’t think that’s it.”

Her eyes flashed in warning. “I couldn’t care less what you think.”

He grinned, hearing the catch in her voice. “I think you liked kissing me.”

“You’re treading on dangerous ground, Gabriel.”

If he had encountered her in full hunter mode in a dark alley, the thinly veiled warning might have truly concerned him. As it was, ordering him to back off only made him hunger to get that much closer. “I couldn’t agree more.”

Gabriel slowly released his hold on her arm, surprised she hadn’t shrugged him off already. With his eyes fastened on hers, he dragged the back of his knuckles up her bare arm. Her lips parted and she shuddered.

His heart started to pound, his skin heating from within. This was hardly the first time he had touched a woman, and yet his insides drew tight in sweet expectation.

Of touching her. Kissing her.

The fight left her eyes, but the wariness remained. She exhaled slowly. “You need to stop.”

Gabe brushed her hair back and cupped her jaw. “Or?” He leaned in and inhaled the rich, enticing scent of her, savoring it. He craved to taste her skin at the delectable curve where her shoulder met her neck, ached to lick the soft hollow of her throat.

Since the moment she’d helped him off the floor when they met, agreeing to sleep with him if he could manage ten steps on his own, he’d been waiting for it. Waiting for  Brynn to let him get this close.

Months ago, even weakened by blood loss from the hunters who had taken Lanie, he had been cocky enough to believe he had her challenge in the bag. He’d managed three whole steps before he collapsed.

“Don’t,” she whispered, her breath hot on his skin, and he realized he had opened his mind to the memory, shared it with her. She lifted her hand and encircled his wrist, but didn’t pull him away.

She shook her head, her fingers tightening, trembling.

Gabriel tipped her chin up and covered her mouth with his.
